The Babinda Harvest Festival is an annual event and takes place on Saturday at the Babinda Showgrounds. It celebrates the start of the sugarcane harvest as well as celebrating the harvesting of other tropical produce from our region like bananas, pawpaws, tropical flowers and vanilla. The theme this year is “Festival of Flags”. The Grand Street Parade commencing at 3.30pm, then festivities and Tractor Pull will begin at the Babinda Showgrounds. At the Festival there are food stalls, children's entertainment, market stalls, live entertainment and a bar, a pavilion filled with local arts, fruits and displays. The night concludes with a wonderful firework display and cane burning at 8:30pm and the bands play until midnight.
The Annual LGBT+ community family-friendly Fair Day with the Dog Show, Drag Queens, Matthew Mitcham, Wild Barra Indigenous Fashion spectacle, community stalls, art exhibition, musicians, and buskers. It’s on Sunday from 10:30am - 5:00pm at the Tanks.
Mulgrave Landcare tree planting on Sunday from 3pm – 6.30pm. South of Fishery Falls just past the McDonnell Creek State School on the left. Follow the signs. Bring your sun smart gear, covered shoes, gloves, and water. Refreshments will be supplied. The morning will finish at Figtree Creek for a paddle and refreshments, so don't forget to bring a towel.
Northern Cycleway Community Ride is on Sunday. The ride will be starting and finishing at the picturesque Ryan Weare Park, Freshwater. There will be supervised rides of varying length to cater for all fitness levels and everyone who takes part will be rewarded with a free breakfast. Registrations from 7.30am, with an 8am start for the ride.
Cairns Songfest is on Saturday from 4pm – 6pm. Some seventy Cairns youths will join forces with the renowned Gondwana Choirs, the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Inspire Quartet, and Torres Strait Island dance troupe Gereb Sik for the Songfest concert at St Monica’s Cathedral.
Family Fun Day in the Park will be held at Machans Beach on Saturday from 3pm – 8pm. This is a family friendly event with playground and kids sports as well as a BBQ and licensed bar for the adults along with live music.
St Gerard Majella School, Woree have the 30th Anniversary and Celebrations Saturday. 2-3pm Food Trucks and Historical Displays in the Library, 1-3pm Rides, 1-2pm School & Classroom Tours and 3pm Liturgy and Cake Cutting.
The Mareeba Drive In is screening two big movies on Saturday. (1st) GreaseE 40th Anniversary (PG) and (2nd) Mission Impossible Fallout (M). Gates and cafe open 6:30 and the first movie starts at 7:30. They offer free camping for movie nights
The Cairns German Club host the original Oktoberfest Cairns which has been going since 1992. Lots of entertainment and fun. It’s on Saturday from 12pm, free entry. Family friendly afternoon. Bring your kids.
FNQ Country Music Festival is on Saturday at Kerribee Park Rodeo Grounds Mareeba. It starts at 6pm with a talent quest and then 7 live artists until midnight.
