Man Pleads Guilty to Grievous Bodily Harm Contributed

A 29-year-old man fronted Warwick District Court yesterday pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm, after he committed an act described as "excessive self-defence".

The incident occurred in August 2016 during a street fight on Tooth Street, Warwick, centred around an on-going family dispute.

At the time of the altercation, the offender lunged at the victim and plunged a knife into his shoulder.

The offender then fell to the ground but his victim kept punching him, so he stabbed him multiple times in his chest and abdomen.

The court heard how two of those injuries were life-threatening because without treatment the complainant would have died through blood loss.

Taking into account time already served, the man was sentenced to three years' jail but released him on parole immediately.
