Metro Trains and Yarra Trams could face big fines after both companies failed performance targets.
Public Transport Victoria released December results for the two operators yesterday, with both of them falling short of new parameters introduced on November 30.
91.6% of Metro’s services were on time in December, short of their target of 92%, while Yarra Trams 80.7% delivery on time services was under its target of 82%.
Neither operator would have been fined under the old guidelines, which required 88% of services on time for Metro Trains and 77% for Yarra Trams.
Under the new guidelines, Metro can be fined up $1.25 million for each month it doesn’t hit its targets, while Yarra Trams can cop fines up to $500,000.
PTV will decide whether or not to fine the two operators over the new few weeks, according to the Herald Sun.
