Calls For Calm Over Murray Darling Basin Claims

The body representing Riverina farmers is calling for calm on the Murray Darling Basin Plan, saying while illegal water take should not be condoned, until the claims of theft are properly investigated, they remain only allegations.

President Fiona Simson says the referral of serious allegations by the NSW Government to the Independent Commission against Corruption was entirely appropriate.

She’s also welcomed the appointment of Ken Matthews to lead an independent examination of the government’s conduct in relation to the issues raised in recent media reports.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has already sought the agreement of Basin State Ministers for the MDBA to conduct a Basin-Wide Compliance Review.
