Calvin Andrew of English third division soccer team Rochdale has been slapped with a huge 12 match ban for violent conduct.
Rochdale were playing cross-town rivals Oldham Athletic when Andrew laid a vicious elbow on opposition defender Peter Clarke in the 77th minute of the game.
The incident wasn’t witnessed by the referee but was caught on camera, allowing the English Football Association to apply the ban.
The 12 match ban is the equal second biggest in English football history, after Eric Cantona’s nine-month ban in 1995 for kicking a fan and equal with Joey Barton’s ban for fighting two Manchester City players in 2012.
Andrew won’t play again until January.
