Now back to Sydney

The Socceroos have drawn the first leg of the final world cup qualifier 0-0 against Honduras in San Pedro Sula.

Australia had the better chances but couldn’t force the ball into the back of the net, with record goal scorer Tim Cahill an unused substitute after making the long trek to Honduras.

A 0-0 result is a decent one for Australia, with the qualification equation now simple — win the next leg in Sydney and we’re in the world cup.

The match was a tense encounter played on a poor pitch, with a moment of controversy late in the first half when the Socceroos were awarded a penalty, only for the linesman to overrule the referee and change the decision.
